INTERACTIVE CREATIVE SKETCHBOOK IN PHOTOGRAPHY
A sketchbook is a creative document that contains both written and visual material. It is a place for researching, exploring, planning and developing ideas – for testing, practising, evaluating and discussing your project. It is the place where you learn from other artists and express and brainstorm ideas.
The sketchbook is an important part of your coursework projects. It shows the journey (or development) towards your final piece and usually contains:

- Evidence of first-hand responses to subject matter and artworks, demonstrated through observational drawings, photographs and annotated pamphlets and sketches from exhibitions or gallery visits. (Note: the sketchbook must NOT be used as a dumping ground for fliers and pamphlets. If you are going to glue something in, evaluate it, discuss its relevance and explain how it helps to inform your own work)

Bull’s Eye Comparison
Compare and contrast two or three CONCEPTS, VOCABULARY TERMS, EVENTS, or FIGURES.

4. Include an illustration showing how the topics are related (4 color minimum).

Identifying common misconceptions.

Cartoon Project
Create a single frame or multiple frame cartoon representing the assigned concept, event or figure (4 color minimum).
1. Draw the cartoon.
2. Write a maximum 2 lines for a captions or speaking bubbles.
3. Highlight vocabulary terms used in the cartoon.
4. Summarize how the cartoon shows or addresses the assigned concept and how the caption/speaking bubbles represents the assigned concept.
Lost or Found
Make a Lost or Found poster about the assigned CONCEPT, VOCABULARY, EVENT or FIGURE.
1. The poster must have a large (minimum 4 color) diagram representing the concept.
2. Summarize the concept, how the concept is related to the poster, and how the illustration represents the concept (highlight the vocabulary terms used).
Grasping a Concept
Identify concepts related to a main idea and an opposing concept.
1. Trace your non-writing hand.
2. In the palm area write the concept, event, figure or topic and make a simple sketch (4 color minimum) representing it.
3. On each digit, write a vocabulary term, minor concept, figure, event or equation related to the concept, event, figure or topic on the palm.
4. At the end of each digit include a simple sketch (four colors minimum) representing what is on the digit.
5. The thumb opposes the other digits, so the thumb should have a related but somewhat opposite or different slant than the other digits.
6. A summary explaining the concept and activity must be written including:
- An explanation of the main topic and how it relates to the palm and sketch.
- An explanation of the connection between the main topic and the 4 related digits.
- An explanation of how the thumb information is related but is opposed to the other digits’ information.

Diamanti (Diamond) Poem
A diamanti poem compares and contrasts two terms. The format is shown in the diagram.
The top lines describe topic 1.
The bottom lines describe topic 2.
The MIDDLE line has two words for topic 1 and two for topic 2.
There must be a minimum four-color diagram representing each topic and an explanation of how the terms and diagram relates to each topic.
Haiku
Haiku is a minimalist, contemplative poetry from Japan that emphasizes nature, color, season, contrasts and surprises. Usually it has 3 lines and 17 syllables distributed in a 5, 7 and 5 syllable pattern. It should show a sensation, impression or drama of a specific fact or concept.
17 syllables
5 syllables in the first line
7 syllables in the second line
5 syllables in the third line.
1. It must follow the pattern and deal with the assigned CONCEPT, VOCABULARY, EVENT or FIGURE.
2. The section must have a border and artwork reflecting the topic ‐ you pick the aspect you with to emphasis in the haiku and artwork (Minimum of four colors).
3. There must be a short 3 to 5 sentence explanation telling how the Haiku shows an understanding of the assigned topic.
Cinquain
A cinquain is a five-line poem written about a single concept, object or idea. The format is a short, unrhymed poem of twenty-two syllables and five lines. The five lines contain 2, 4, 6, 8 then 2 syllables. Each line is supposed to deal with a specific aspect of the cinquian’s topic.
The first line consists of two syllables / 1 word (the title).
The second line consists of four syllables / 2 words (describes the title).
The third line consists of six syllables / 3 words (states an action).
The fourth line consists of eight syllables / 4 words (expresses a feeling)
The last line consists of two syllables / 1 word (another word for the title).
The Cinquain must be written on the assigned CONCEPTS, VOCABULARY, EVENT or FIGURE.
• Follow the format of syllables and words per line.
• An illustration of the concept or topic must be made after the cinquain.
• A minimum of 4 colors (black and white do not count) must be used in the illustration.
• A 3 to 5 sentence EXPLANATION of how the cinquain and illustration relate to the assigned topic.

Fables
A fable is a short story with animals as main characters. There is a moral or point to the story.
• The short story is generally 2 to 3 paragraphs in length.
• The CONCEPT, VOCABULARY, EVENT or FIGURE assigned in class must be used in the fable.
• The key concept or vocabulary terms must be HIGHLIGHTED in the fable.
• The moral or point to the story is added AFTER the last paragraph.
• After the moral or point to the story is stated, there must be an illustration showing the key concept (minimum of four colors).
• After the illustration there must be an explanation (2 paragraph minimum) of how the story, moral/point and illustration shows the assigned Physics concept or principle.
Limerick Assignment
• The form or pattern of limerick writing must be followed.
• The limerick must be original and not copied from somewhere
• The limerick must be G or PG-13 rated. Anything else gets you into trouble.
• The CONCEPTS, VOCABULARY, EVENT or FIGURE assigned must be addressed in the limerick
• An illustration about the topic must follow the limerick (minimum of four colors).
• A 3 to 5 sentence explanation of how the limerick and the illustration are related to the topic must be written after the illustration.
The Limerick Pattern – A limerick has FIVE Lines.
• The last words of the first, second and fifth lines rhyme with each other.
• The first, second and fifth lines are longer than the third and fourth lines.
• The last words of the third and fourth lines rhyme with each other.
• The pattern of sounds follows the pattern:

Acrostic Poem
• This type of poetry doesn't have to rhyme.
• The assigned CONCEPTS, VOCABULARY, EVENT or FIGURE is written vertically (up and down).
• Words, terms and concepts related to the term are written horizontally (back and forth) off the letter in the vertical term. The letter may be the start of a word or in the center of a word.
• An illustration representing the main idea and related ideas must be next to the acrostic poem (4 color minimum).
• Summarize how the horizontal words AND the illustration are related to the vertical term.
Rhyming Poem
The poem must use the assigned vocabulary terms or concepts. There must be a title reflecting the major CONCEPT, VOCABULARY, EVENT or FIGURE of the poem.
• There must be at least 5 couplets (two lines rhyming with each other) in the poem.
• At least 5 terms from the vocabulary list above must be used. The terms must be highlighted.
• There must be a diagram with at least one vehicle, one animal, and one vegetable (using four colors).
• There must be at least 2 paragraphs explaining how the poem and diagram demonstrate the assigned topic.

Vehicle Name
As part of design team for a new model vehicle, you must select a name for the model. The name must reflect the vehicle’s abilities and one of the assigned CONCEPTS, VOCABULARY, EVENT or FIGURE.
1. What is the model name of the vehicle?
2. Explain how the model name of the vehicle fits its abilities.
3. Write the advertising slogan to be used to represent and show the vehicle. At least two related vocabulary terms must be used in the slogan.
4. Create a magazine advertisement (minimum 4 colors) showing the vehicle and emphasizing its abilities and name.
5. Explain in at least 2 paragraphs how the slogan and magazine advertisement represent the CONCEPT.
Letter to the Editor
• The letter must be from 2 to 4 paragraphs in length and be in correct letter format.
• The letter must contain the assigned CONCEPT, VOCABULARY, EVENT or FIGURE
• Each use of the assigned topic or vocabulary terms must be HIGHLIGHTED.
• YOU must state an opinion about the topic.
• At least 5 specific facts must be used to support the opinion.
• An illustration of the topic must be made after the letter (4 color minimum).
• Include a caption which summarizes how the illustration is related to the topic.
Trip to the Circus
Binky the Clown gives advice about a CONCEPT, EVENT or FIGURE using specific Vocabulary terms in relation to an act or circus attraction.
• A diagram using at least four colors must show Binky the Clown or an assistant demonstrating the concept must be drawn.
• A three to five sentence explanation by Binky the Clown written so a fourth grader could understand the Concept and using the Vocabulary terms (high light the terms) must be written.
• A four to six sentence explanation of how the diagram and the explanation showing an understanding at a high school level must be written
Newspaper Article
• Write a 2 to 3 paragraph long newspaper article suitable for the school newspaper about the assigned CONCEPT, VOCABULARY, EVENT or FIGURE.
• The article must contain the H5W (How, Who, What, When, Where, Why) about the concept.
• The article must have at least two interesting facts people could use in common day conversations.
• There must be a graphic or illustration (4 color minimum) representing the concept or equation being applied.
• Include a caption which summarizes how the illustration is related to the topic.

People In Your Neighborhood-Flip It
Select one of the assigned concepts or events as a neighborhood. Describe the people (vocabulary, aspects, minor events or figures) in the neighborhood. Each person has separate Flip It to be taped into the notebook.
1. Front of the Flip It – not more than 4 cm wide and 10 cm long
2. Front has a colored diagram of the person in appropriate work or leisure clothing.
3. Front has the name of the person (the vocabulary terms, aspect, event or figure) must be part of the name) across the bottom of the Flip It.
4. The back has the name of the person across the top
5. The job or workplace of the person is described
6. How the job or workplace fits the person’s name is described
7. How the job helps the neighborhood (the equation) to operate and solve problems.
Box of Colors
Make LEARNING more color conscious!
1. Give the crayons names which describe both the concept and the color (cheesy macaroni orange).
2. At least six colors must be used.
3. Draw each crayon with the name of the color and variable/concept on the label (Revolution Red on a red colored crayon).
4. Draw the outside of the box with a slogan to entice people to purchase this mix of colors.
5. A safety warning label must be included across the bottom of the box.
6. Summarize the concept including how the color and the concept make a natural fit.
Tattoo or Body Art
You are in charge of developing a tattoo to allow the world to know about one of the assigned CONCEPTS, VOCABULARY, EVENT or FIGURE
1. The centerpiece of the tattoo must be a slogan representing the concept or equation.
2. The surrounding artwork (minimum of 4 colors) must demonstrate the equation’s concept in a real-life situation.
3. The artwork must be suitable for all ages and appropriate for viewing in all social situations.
4. A 2 to 3 paragraph explanation of how the artwork represents the equation or concept and the best location for the tattoo on the body must be written underneath the tattoo.

Clothing Line
Your love of learning and your amazing fashion sense has you as the owner of a company offering a clothing line named after one of the assigned CONCEPTS, VOCABULARY, EVENT or FIGURE
1. Create the name of your clothing line and create a logo that represents the concept.
2. Describe one item from the clothing line and how it represents the concept. Include a price for the item.
3. Make an illustration (minimum of 4 colors) of the article of clothing with the logo advertising.
4. Summarize how the name, logo, and clothing item represent the concept. Include in your summary where you will sell your clothing, who will buy your clothing, and how wearing the clothing would help teach the world about the concept.
Toy Design
Apply your interest in fun and learning to design the hottest and best selling toy of the season. It must be able to fit into a standard backpack. The toy must apply one of the assigned CONCEPTS, EVENTS or FIGURES and not cause serious bodily injury as part of normal use.
1. Make an illustration of the toy being used (minimum of 4 colors) by a happy consumer.
2. What is the name of the toy?
3. How does the toy work? What are the best features of the toy?
4. What age group is the toy designed to reach?
5. How will playing with the toy help teach about the concept?
6. Create a slogan to sell the toy that includes info about the toy and the concept.
Public Service Announcement (PSA) - Urinal Advertisement
Write a public service announcement that could be posted on a bathroom wall on one of the assigned CONCEPTS, EVENTS or FIGURES.
• There must be at least one illustration (related to the concept) to catch the eye of the bathroom user (4 color minimum).
• Write a brief and creative announcement promoting the concept. The concept must be identified at least twice during the PSA. The PSA must include at least 5 vocabulary terms or phrases learned. Each vocabulary term or phrase must be highlighted.
• After the written part of the PSA, there must be a one-sentence declaration of the organization responsible for developing the PSA.
• The PSA must be NO LONGER than 30 seconds when read aloud.
• On the back (or a page extension) include an explanation of how and why the PSA would influence people to better understand the main CONCEPT, EVENT or FIGURE.

Radio Commercial to Review Homework - Thirty Seconds Of Fame And Glory
Write a 30 second (maximum) RADIO commercial advertising the assigned concepts, events, variables or terms.
1. The one idea or concept considered to be most important should be the main message of the commercial.
2. The commercial MUST use at least 5 vocabulary terms or phrases from the current unit (highlight each term).
3. A description of any sound effects or music that would accompany the commercial may be listed in parenthesis and highlighted inside the body of the commercial.
4. An illustration showing a printed advertisement to accompany the radio campaign must be drawn (use at least 4 colors).
5. An explanation of how both the radio commercial and the printed advertisement meet the key points of the assignment must be written.
Song or Rap
1. The song must use the assigned vocabulary, concepts, events, variables or terms.
2. Use a song or tune or nursery rhyme familiar to you.
3. When presenting the song, be prepared to sing/play it out loud
4. There must be an illustration of the cover art for the CD or computer icon for the song (4 color minimum) showing an understanding of the assigned vocabulary, concepts, events, variables or terms.
5. There must be a 2 to 3 paragraph explanation after the song and illustration to explain how each covers and demonstrates the assigned vocabulary, concepts, events, variables or terms.
Designing A Magazine Ad
Design a magazine advertisement for a favorite magazine of teenagers of a product that illustrates one of the assigned concepts, events, variables or vocabulary terms.
1. The standard header or footer of the magazine name and page number must be placed above or below the advertisement.
2. Create a product that is related to the assigned topic. Draw the advertisement and use a minimum of 4 colors.
3. There must be a claim on the advertisement related to the concept. (For Example: This product may cause ________.)
4. Below the advertisement, explain why the magazine was selected, how the artwork gets across the concept or equation use and why the claims or selling points help explain the importance or develop the understanding of the concept.
Pet Name
You are the proud owner of a new and unique pet and have honored it with one of the assigned concepts, events, variables or vocabulary terms for a name.
1. Write the following as a blog to update people about your new and unique pet:
a. What type of animal is the pet?
b. What is the name of the pet?
c. Explain how the name of the pet fits its behavior.
d. Describe ONE trick you will have the pet learn to represent and show off its name.
2. Make a drawing of the Pet showing off the trick (4 color minimum).
3. Summarize how the drawing and trick represents the concept, event, variable or vocabulary term.

Free Fall Sporting Event
Design a non-injurious sporting event, Newtonia that requires a team of players to work together to win. The sporting event will take place in free fall (no apparent gravity) inside a large air filled bubble.
Players are NOT allowed to use any electrical devices or electronic enhancements. The sporting event must apply at least 5 different Concepts, Events, Figures or Variables during play.
1. Write the rule or rules to win.
2. Describe and illustrate the uniform or equipment needed to play.
3. Write each of the concepts or principles to be applied during the game and describe how applying each will help a team win the game.
4. Describe any special problems that would have to be solved due to the game being played in free fall (no apparent gravity)
Hero Special Assignment
Design a comic book hero or heroine related to the topic.
1. The name of the hero or heroine must reflect one of the major Concepts, Events, Figures or Variables of the unit.
2. The costume must reflect the name.
3. The superpower or strength of the hero or heroine must be related to the major concept or event of the unit.
4. Draw the hero or heroine using the superpower (4 color minimum).
5. Summarize how the costume and superpower are related to the major concept AND how the illustration demonstrates the application of the major concept or event of the unit.
Concept Mapping
Identify a main theme or idea and related ideas.
1. The main theme or concept is the center bubble of the concept map.
2. Branching off the center bubble are related concepts or topics.
3. A summary must be written explaining the connection of each branching bubble to the center bubble.
• Use at least 4 different colors and 4 different shapes on the concept map.
• Each color must represent a different thread of ideas or concepts. If a bubble is related to more than one thread of concepts, use all the colors to show this.
• Each shape of bubble must represent a different thread of ideas or concepts.
• Include a key identifying what each shape and color represents

Hockey Stick Poem
Create a ‘Hockey Stick’ Poem from knowledge of Pascal’s Triangle. The hockey stick handle may start on row 1 or 2. The number on the ‘hockey stick’ is the number of syllables needed in the line. The poem is five or six lines long, the longer the handle, the more lines in the poem.
• The poem must emphasize the assigned Concept, Event, Figure or Variable.
• There must be at least 3 related vocabulary terms used in the poem. Each used vocabulary term must be highlighted.
• An illustration of an object using triangular shapes must be made using at least four colors.
• A minimum of three paragraphs of explanation of how the concept, diagram and Pascal’s Triangle are related in the assignment must be made.
Left Side Activities (LSA’s)
Protest Sign
Create a sign emphasizing the assigned Concept, Event, Figure or Variable.
1. The front of the sign must have a slogan with no more than 10 words and use at least 1 current vocabulary term.
2. The back of the sign must have a picture or diagram representing the concept using at least four colors.
3. Summarize how the slogan and diagram show your understanding of the assigned concept. Also include where and when the sign would be used.
Portmanteau Words – Blending Words
Lewis Carroll in Through The Looking Glass who coined the word portmanteau to describe the process of combining words to create a new one. Many words used in today’s language are portmanteau words.

Lost or Found
Make a Lost or Found poster about the assigned CONCEPT, VOCABULARY, EVENT or FIGURE.
1. The poster must have a large (minimum 4 color) diagram representing the concept.
2. Summarize the concept, how the concept is related to the poster, and how the illustration represents the concept (highlight the vocabulary terms used).
Grasping a Concept
Identify concepts related to a main idea and an opposing concept.
1. Trace your non-writing hand.
2. In the palm area write the concept, event, figure or topic and make a simple sketch (4 color minimum) representing it.
3. On each digit, write a vocabulary term, minor concept, figure, event or equation related to the concept, event, figure or topic on the palm.
4. At the end of each digit include a simple sketch (four colors minimum) representing what is on the digit.
5. The thumb opposes the other digits, so the thumb should have a related but somewhat opposite or different slant than the other digits.
6. A summary explaining the concept and activity must be written including:
- An explanation of the main topic and how it relates to the palm and sketch.
- An explanation of the connection between the main topic and the 4 related digits.
- An explanation of how the thumb information is related but is opposed to the other digits’ information.

Diamanti (Diamond) Poem
A diamanti poem compares and contrasts two terms. The format is shown in the diagram.
The top lines describe topic 1.
The bottom lines describe topic 2.
The MIDDLE line has two words for topic 1 and two for topic 2.
There must be a minimum four-color diagram representing each topic and an explanation of how the terms and diagram relates to each topic.
Haiku
Haiku is a minimalist, contemplative poetry from Japan that emphasizes nature, color, season, contrasts and surprises. Usually it has 3 lines and 17 syllables distributed in a 5, 7 and 5 syllable pattern. It should show a sensation, impression or drama of a specific fact or concept.

1. It must follow the pattern and deal with the assigned CONCEPT, VOCABULARY, EVENT or FIGURE.
2. The section must have a border and artwork reflecting the topic ‐ you pick the aspect you with to emphasis in the haiku and artwork (Minimum of four colors).
3. There must be a short 3 to 5 sentence explanation telling how the Haiku shows an understanding of the assigned topic.
Cinquain
A cinquain is a five-line poem written about a single concept, object or idea. The format is a short, unrhymed poem of twenty-two syllables and five lines. The five lines contain 2, 4, 6, 8 then 2 syllables. Each line is supposed to deal with a specific aspect of the cinquian’s topic.
The first line consists of two syllables / 1 word (the title).
The second line consists of four syllables / 2 words (describes the title).
The third line consists of six syllables / 3 words (states an action).
The fourth line consists of eight syllables / 4 words (expresses a feeling)
The last line consists of two syllables / 1 word (another word for the title).
The Cinquain must be written on the assigned CONCEPTS, VOCABULARY, EVENT or FIGURE.
• Follow the format of syllables and words per line.
• An illustration of the concept or topic must be made after the cinquain.
• A minimum of 4 colors (black and white do not count) must be used in the illustration.
• A 3 to 5 sentence EXPLANATION of how the cinquain and illustration relate to the assigned topic.

Fables
A fable is a short story with animals as main characters. There is a moral or point to the story.
• The short story is generally 2 to 3 paragraphs in length.
• The CONCEPT, VOCABULARY, EVENT or FIGURE assigned in class must be used in the fable.
• The key concept or vocabulary terms must be HIGHLIGHTED in the fable.
• The moral or point to the story is added AFTER the last paragraph.
• After the moral or point to the story is stated, there must be an illustration showing the key concept (minimum of four colors).
• After the illustration there must be an explanation (2 paragraph minimum) of how the story, moral/point and illustration shows the assigned Physics concept or principle.
Limerick Assignment
• The form or pattern of limerick writing must be followed.
• The limerick must be original and not copied from somewhere
• The limerick must be G or PG-13 rated. Anything else gets you into trouble.
• The CONCEPTS, VOCABULARY, EVENT or FIGURE assigned must be addressed in the limerick
• An illustration about the topic must follow the limerick (minimum of four colors).
• A 3 to 5 sentence explanation of how the limerick and the illustration are related to the topic must be written after the illustration.
The Limerick Pattern – A limerick has FIVE Lines.
• The last words of the first, second and fifth lines rhyme with each other.
• The first, second and fifth lines are longer than the third and fourth lines.
• The last words of the third and fourth lines rhyme with each other.

Acrostic Poem
• This type of poetry doesn't have to rhyme.
• The assigned CONCEPTS, VOCABULARY, EVENT or FIGURE is written vertically (up and down).
• Words, terms and concepts related to the term are written horizontally (back and forth) off the letter in the vertical term. The letter may be the start of a word or in the center of a word.
• An illustration representing the main idea and related ideas must be next to the acrostic poem (4 color minimum).
• Summarize how the horizontal words AND the illustration are related to the vertical term.
Rhyming Poem
The poem must use the assigned vocabulary terms or concepts. There must be a title reflecting the major CONCEPT, VOCABULARY, EVENT or FIGURE of the poem.
• There must be at least 5 couplets (two lines rhyming with each other) in the poem.
• At least 5 terms from the vocabulary list above must be used. The terms must be highlighted.
• There must be a diagram with at least one vehicle, one animal, and one vegetable (using four colors).
• There must be at least 2 paragraphs explaining how the poem and diagram demonstrate the assigned topic.

Vehicle Name
As part of design team for a new model vehicle, you must select a name for the model. The name must reflect the vehicle’s abilities and one of the assigned CONCEPTS, VOCABULARY, EVENT or FIGURE.
1. What is the model name of the vehicle?
2. Explain how the model name of the vehicle fits its abilities.
3. Write the advertising slogan to be used to represent and show the vehicle. At least two related vocabulary terms must be used in the slogan.
4. Create a magazine advertisement (minimum 4 colors) showing the vehicle and emphasizing its abilities and name.
5. Explain in at least 2 paragraphs how the slogan and magazine advertisement represent the CONCEPT.
Letter to the Editor
• The letter must be from 2 to 4 paragraphs in length and be in correct letter format.
• The letter must contain the assigned CONCEPT, VOCABULARY, EVENT or FIGURE
• Each use of the assigned topic or vocabulary terms must be HIGHLIGHTED.
• YOU must state an opinion about the topic.
• At least 5 specific facts must be used to support the opinion.
• An illustration of the topic must be made after the letter (4 color minimum).
• Include a caption which summarizes how the illustration is related to the topic.
Trip to the Circus
Binky the Clown gives advice about a CONCEPT, EVENT or FIGURE using specific Vocabulary terms in relation to an act or circus attraction.
• A diagram using at least four colors must show Binky the Clown or an assistant demonstrating the concept must be drawn.
• A three to five sentence explanation by Binky the Clown written so a fourth grader could understand the Concept and using the Vocabulary terms (high light the terms) must be written.
• A four to six sentence explanation of how the diagram and the explanation showing an understanding at a high school level must be written
Newspaper Article
• Write a 2 to 3 paragraph long newspaper article suitable for the school newspaper about the assigned CONCEPT, VOCABULARY, EVENT or FIGURE.
• The article must contain the H5W (How, Who, What, When, Where, Why) about the concept.
• The article must have at least two interesting facts people could use in common day conversations.
• There must be a graphic or illustration (4 color minimum) representing the concept or equation being applied.
• Include a caption which summarizes how the illustration is related to the topic.

Select one of the assigned concepts or events as a neighborhood. Describe the people (vocabulary, aspects, minor events or figures) in the neighborhood. Each person has separate Flip It to be taped into the notebook.

2. Front has a colored diagram of the person in appropriate work or leisure clothing.

Tattoo or Body Art
You are in charge of developing a tattoo to allow the world to know about one of the assigned CONCEPTS, VOCABULARY, EVENT or FIGURE
1. The centerpiece of the tattoo must be a slogan representing the concept or equation.
2. The surrounding artwork (minimum of 4 colors) must demonstrate the equation’s concept in a real-life situation.
3. The artwork must be suitable for all ages and appropriate for viewing in all social situations.
4. A 2 to 3 paragraph explanation of how the artwork represents the equation or concept and the best location for the tattoo on the body must be written underneath the tattoo.

Clothing Line
Your love of learning and your amazing fashion sense has you as the owner of a company offering a clothing line named after one of the assigned CONCEPTS, VOCABULARY, EVENT or FIGURE
1. Create the name of your clothing line and create a logo that represents the concept.
2. Describe one item from the clothing line and how it represents the concept. Include a price for the item.
3. Make an illustration (minimum of 4 colors) of the article of clothing with the logo advertising.
4. Summarize how the name, logo, and clothing item represent the concept. Include in your summary where you will sell your clothing, who will buy your clothing, and how wearing the clothing would help teach the world about the concept.
Toy Design
Apply your interest in fun and learning to design the hottest and best selling toy of the season. It must be able to fit into a standard backpack. The toy must apply one of the assigned CONCEPTS, EVENTS or FIGURES and not cause serious bodily injury as part of normal use.
1. Make an illustration of the toy being used (minimum of 4 colors) by a happy consumer.
2. What is the name of the toy?
3. How does the toy work? What are the best features of the toy?
4. What age group is the toy designed to reach?
5. How will playing with the toy help teach about the concept?
6. Create a slogan to sell the toy that includes info about the toy and the concept.
Public Service Announcement (PSA) - Urinal Advertisement
Write a public service announcement that could be posted on a bathroom wall on one of the assigned CONCEPTS, EVENTS or FIGURES.
• There must be at least one illustration (related to the concept) to catch the eye of the bathroom user (4 color minimum).
• Write a brief and creative announcement promoting the concept. The concept must be identified at least twice during the PSA. The PSA must include at least 5 vocabulary terms or phrases learned. Each vocabulary term or phrase must be highlighted.
• After the written part of the PSA, there must be a one-sentence declaration of the organization responsible for developing the PSA.
• The PSA must be NO LONGER than 30 seconds when read aloud.
• On the back (or a page extension) include an explanation of how and why the PSA would influence people to better understand the main CONCEPT, EVENT or FIGURE.

Radio Commercial to Review Homework - Thirty Seconds Of Fame And Glory
Write a 30 second (maximum) RADIO commercial advertising the assigned concepts, events, variables or terms.
1. The one idea or concept considered to be most important should be the main message of the commercial.
2. The commercial MUST use at least 5 vocabulary terms or phrases from the current unit (highlight each term).
3. A description of any sound effects or music that would accompany the commercial may be listed in parenthesis and highlighted inside the body of the commercial.
4. An illustration showing a printed advertisement to accompany the radio campaign must be drawn (use at least 4 colors).
5. An explanation of how both the radio commercial and the printed advertisement meet the key points of the assignment must be written.
Song or Rap
1. The song must use the assigned vocabulary, concepts, events, variables or terms.
2. Use a song or tune or nursery rhyme familiar to you.
3. When presenting the song, be prepared to sing/play it out loud
4. There must be an illustration of the cover art for the CD or computer icon for the song (4 color minimum) showing an understanding of the assigned vocabulary, concepts, events, variables or terms.
5. There must be a 2 to 3 paragraph explanation after the song and illustration to explain how each covers and demonstrates the assigned vocabulary, concepts, events, variables or terms.
Designing A Magazine Ad
Design a magazine advertisement for a favorite magazine of teenagers of a product that illustrates one of the assigned concepts, events, variables or vocabulary terms.
1. The standard header or footer of the magazine name and page number must be placed above or below the advertisement.
2. Create a product that is related to the assigned topic. Draw the advertisement and use a minimum of 4 colors.
3. There must be a claim on the advertisement related to the concept. (For Example: This product may cause ________.)
4. Below the advertisement, explain why the magazine was selected, how the artwork gets across the concept or equation use and why the claims or selling points help explain the importance or develop the understanding of the concept.
Pet Name
You are the proud owner of a new and unique pet and have honored it with one of the assigned concepts, events, variables or vocabulary terms for a name.
1. Write the following as a blog to update people about your new and unique pet:
a. What type of animal is the pet?

Players are NOT allowed to use any electrical devices or electronic enhancements. The sporting event must apply at least 5 different Concepts, Events, Figures or Variables during play.
1. Write the rule or rules to win.
2. Describe and illustrate the uniform or equipment needed to play.
3. Write each of the concepts or principles to be applied during the game and describe how applying each will help a team win the game.
4. Describe any special problems that would have to be solved due to the game being played in free fall (no apparent gravity)

Design a comic book hero or heroine related to the topic.
1. The name of the hero or heroine must reflect one of the major Concepts, Events, Figures or Variables of the unit.

4. Draw the hero or heroine using the superpower (4 color minimum).

Identify a main theme or idea and related ideas.
1. The main theme or concept is the center bubble of the concept map.

3. A summary must be written explaining the connection of each branching bubble to the center bubble.

Hockey Stick Poem
Create a ‘Hockey Stick’ Poem from knowledge of Pascal’s Triangle. The hockey stick handle may start on row 1 or 2. The number on the ‘hockey stick’ is the number of syllables needed in the line. The poem is five or six lines long, the longer the handle, the more lines in the poem.
• The poem must emphasize the assigned Concept, Event, Figure or Variable.
• There must be at least 3 related vocabulary terms used in the poem. Each used vocabulary term must be highlighted.
• An illustration of an object using triangular shapes must be made using at least four colors.
• A minimum of three paragraphs of explanation of how the concept, diagram and Pascal’s Triangle are related in the assignment must be made.

Portmanteau Words – Blending Words
Lewis Carroll in Through The Looking Glass who coined the word portmanteau to describe the process of combining words to create a new one. Many words used in today’s language are portmanteau words.
